“We took the billing errors to both suppliers and both parties agreed to refund all incorrect charges in full. Furthermore, cessation of unutilised lines has reduced rental charges and lowered energy bills. Our understanding of our telecoms estate has improved and we’re a lot better off thanks to the work of the team at Mala.”

The issue
The appointment of a new Financial Director and the recent move to a new telecoms supplier precipitated the need for Scottish Provincial Press to gain an improved understanding of their telecoms estate. There were insufficient records to accurately review spending, driving a requirement to undergo a thorough spring clean of their telecoms bills, past and present.

The Mala solution
Mala provided a single, accurate and current inventory for Scottish Provincial Press’s telecoms estate.

This enabled the identification of future cost savings and opportunities for further enhancements to the network.

Additional analysis highlighted areas of overspend from previous bills and identified equipment rental and maintenance charges no longer required by the company.

We also isolated those circuits no longer in use for which the organisation were incurring rental and energy costs.

Results

  • A single, accurate inventory of the total expenditure across all 14 sites enhancing the ability to manage suppliers, monitor spend patterns and plan for future network developments
  • Historical bill analysis identified billing errors for early termination charges enabling refunds
  • Cessation of equipment, lines and maintenance no longer needed resulted in annual savings of more than 10% of the total telecoms expenditure
